Serving

"If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all."

Mark 9:35

Learn More About Our Ministries

The Church is called to be a compassionate force for good in this world. This is part of the Gospel. At St. Dunstan’s we try our best to bring the compassion and love of Jesus to those around us by reaching out to the poor, the broken, and the outcast of our society. We believe compassion and mercy should always triumph over judgment and condemnation.

Serving Within the Church

Servers assist the clergy during worship by carrying the processional cross, lighting and extinguishing candles, ringing the communion bell, and assisting at the altar. This ministry offers a hands-on way to participate in the liturgy, especially meaningful for young people learning to serve at God's altar. Training is provided, and servers of all ages are welcome to join this ancient and honored ministry. For more information, contact Jan Hendrick.

Lectors proclaim the Word of God during worship services, read the Old Testament lesson, the Psalm, and the Epistle, and lead the Prayers of the People. Chalice Bearers assist in administering the consecrated wine during Holy Communion. Both roles require clear speaking voices, comfort with public ministry, and a heart for serving God's people at the Table. Training is provided for those interested in these vital liturgical ministries. For more information, contact Joyce Mattison.

The Choir leads congregational singing and offers musical offerings that enhance our worship and glorify God. Through anthems, psalms, and hymns, choir members use their voices to proclaim the faith and enrich the liturgy. No audition is required—just a love of singing and a commitment to regular rehearsals. The choir provides a unique way to serve God through beauty and to experience Christian community through shared musical ministry. For more information, contact Christina Jimenez.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs) are trained and licensed to take Holy Communion to those unable to attend Sunday worship—whether homebound, hospitalized, or in care facilities. This ministry extends the Sunday Eucharist beyond our church walls, ensuring that all members of the Body of Christ can participate in the sacrament. LEMs provide not only spiritual care but also pastoral presence, bringing connection and consolation to those who cannot be physically present with the congregation. For more information, contact Fr. Chuck Bennett.

The Altar Guild prepares the sanctuary for worship, ensuring that everything needed for the celebration of the Eucharist is ready and in its proper place. Members set up communion vessels, prepare the altar linens, fill candles, and maintain the sacred space with reverence and attention to detail. This behind-the-scenes ministry requires faithfulness, as members work early Sunday mornings and throughout the week to make our worship beautiful and seamless. For more information, contact Jan Hendrick.

The Flower Guild creates beautiful floral arrangements that enhance our worship space and celebrate the seasons of the church year. Members work together to design, arrange, and place flowers for Sunday services and special feast days, transforming the sanctuary into a beautiful space that reflects God's creative glory. This ministry requires both artistic sensibility and practical coordination, as members also maintain altar vases, order flowers, and ensure arrangements are delivered to homebound parishioners or those celebrating special occasions. For more information, contact Toni VanKirk.

Greeters stand at the doors before services to warmly welcome everyone who enters, whether longtime members or first-time visitors. This simple but crucial ministry sets the tone for worship, helping people feel noticed, valued, and glad they came. Greeters also provide directions, answer questions, and offer a genuine smile that says "you belong here." This is hospitality at its most essential. For more information, contact Barbara Warner.

Ushers are often the first friendly faces people encounter when entering St. Dunstan's. They welcome worshipers, distribute bulletins, assist with seating, collect the offering, and coordinate communion. This ministry combines hospitality with practical service, helping our worship flow smoothly while making everyone feel welcomed and cared for. Ushers serve as the practical and pastoral presence that helps people feel at home. For more information, contact Paul Knapp.

The Livestream/Tech Team ensures that worship is both heard clearly in the sanctuary and accessible to those participating online. Members operate the sound system during services, manage audio levels, monitor livestream quality, and troubleshoot technical issues as they arise. This ministry combines technical skill with servant-heartedness, making worship seamless for both in-person and online congregations. The team extends our worship beyond the sanctuary walls to reach shut-ins, travelers, and seekers exploring the faith. Training is provided, and tech-savvy volunteers of all ages are welcome. For more information, contact Fr. Michael.

The Kitchen Krewe makes fellowship possible by preparing food for parish events, receptions, and special gatherings. Whether setting up coffee hour after Sunday services, cooking for a parish dinner, or organizing refreshments for special occasions, this team creates the warm hospitality that builds community. No culinary expertise required—just a willingness to serve and a love for bringing people together around the table. For more information, contact Pat Moore or Toni VanKirk.

Counters provide faithful financial stewardship by carefully counting and recording Sunday offerings and other contributions. This team works after services to accurately tally gifts, prepare bank deposits, and maintain detailed records for the church's financial integrity. This ministry requires trustworthiness, attention to detail, and a commitment to confidentiality. Counters typically work in pairs for accountability and serve on a rotating schedule, making this an essential but unobtrusive way to support the mission and ministry of St. Dunstan's. For more information, contact Barbara Davidson.

Our Nursery Caregivers and Sunday School Teachers nurture the youngest members of our church family, providing safe, loving care for infants and toddlers while teaching children the stories of Scripture and the rhythms of Christian faith. These ministers help families worship with peace of mind and plant seeds of faith that will grow for a lifetime. Background checks are required, and training and curriculum support are provided.

The elementary Sunday school class is continuing to work through the Gospel Project Bible Curriculum, studying the Old Testament times of the Israelite kings. The middle school/high school class is studying the book of Matthew, focusing on King Jesus. For more information, contact Mary Shrock, Joyce Mattison, or Sandy Cullum.
